June 30, 2009 Wine Deals E-Blast
We took this Malbec in last year and thought it was a pretty good buy. But when we tried the new vintage at an early February tasting in Baltimore, Maryland we knew we were on to something: this was a serious Malbec for the money. Deep color, full-bodied, and loaded with blackberry fruit, it drinks like something considerably more expensive than it is. A couple months later, Robert Parker posted this comment about the 2008 Lexicon Malbec on the Mark Squires Bulletin Board on Erobertparker.com, " SUPER VALUE -- 2008 Lexicon Malbec-Mendoza, Argentina - $12-13 ... 100% malbec, terrific plum, blackberry, forest floor aromas, dense ruby purple color, medium-bodied, silky tannins, and the finish and flavor intensity of a wine 2-3 X the price .... drink it over the next 1-2 years...amazing value... 90% aged in tank,10% aged in oak for three months...malbec fruit bomb ... " Will it score big in the official write-up... who knows? Matter of fact... who CARES? It's good stuff, and that's what matters to us!!
