Tikal wines reflect the spirit of Mendoza: the sense of pride, love, celebration, and even a bit of craziness. Ernesto Catena spent his childhood in the vineyards of Mendoza among wine-growers and local pundits. A skilled horseman, software developer, and book editor, Ernesto pursues all that gives pleasure in life. This hedonism (in the best sense of the word) shows through in his wines. It is a style meant to provide enormous pleasure rather than provoke contemplation; an expression of emotion rather than intellect.
Sourced entirely from the organically-farmed vineyards of Vista Flores in the Uco Valley of Mendoza. The vines grow at 3,215 foot elevations and average 15 years in age. This wine was aged for one year in 1/4 new French oak, with the balance in 1-year old French oak barrels. 1,300 cases produced. This is Malbec in its most natural expression, capturing the true essence of the Uco Valley vineyard where they were picked. It has a beautiful pomegranate color and aroma of fresh red cherries. The palate is fresh and lively with black raspberry and spiced mocha notes.
