Winemaker's Notes:
Jester Shiraz is a blend of Shiraz from various sections of the Mitolo McLaren Vale vineyard in Willunga, the southernmost tip of McLaren Vale and right by the water. The proximity to the ocean is what provides the trademark freshness and savory complexity of the Mitolo wines. The Jester wines have in a sense a light-hearted name, but they are extremely serious wines. Depending on the vintage, the components vary, but all have a common theme of more upfront fruit than grapes destined for Mitolo’s top wines, to make a more approachable wine style. The grapes are fermented for 5 days on skins in 2 ton open fermenters and then matured in oak from the previous year’s top wines.

A savory style, offering toasty mineral and licorice flavors that wrap tightly around dark berry at the core, finishing lithe and focused. Drink now through 2015. 5,000 cases imported.–HS

Bright purple. Lively aromas of blackberry, cassis and spices. Spicy, bright and very fruity, with good energy to its dark berry flavors. This is far from a stereotypical Aussie shiraz. Finishes with smooth, gentle tannins and lingering spiciness. Offers considerable upfront appeal.
