FX Pichler is widely regarded as the finest wine estate in Austria. All of its wines come from the Wachau region. This Gruner Veltliner is grown in the Loibner Klostersatz vineyard, one of the steepest and most austere sites encountered the Wachau. The wines derived from this site are shaped by the unique composition of this first-class soil, which imparts longevity to them. Here, opulent, intense and yet subtle wines develop. Loibner Grüner Veltliner is full-bodied with underlying minerality, with even slightly smoky and tobacco notes. Federspiel is an Austrian term relating to the ripeness of the grapes, roughly the equivalent of German Kabinett, although fermented completely dry in Austria.

There's plenty of ripe white berry and citrus zest flavors in this rich Federspiel, with cream and ripe tangerine character. Long and lush on the spicy finish, with white chocolate notes. Drink now through 2015. 50 cases imported.–KM
