FX Pichler is widely regarded as the finest wine estate in Austria. All of its wines come from the Wachau region. This Gruner Veltliner comes from grapes at the equivalent ripeness to a German Spatlese, but the wine is fermented to dryness. The “M“ stands for “monumental“ and serves to signify a Grüner Veltliner of exceptional complexity and dimension of taste. The first Gruner to be awarded this honor was one of the 1991 vintage. The grapes for “M“ are usually harvested two to three weeks after the fruit for the vineyard-designated wines. Depending on the vintage and growing season, “M“ is usually made of 70 percent grapes grown in the famous Loibner Berg, the balance being a selection from premium sites. “M“ is always a mighty wine, exhibiting a delicate, dainty opulence.
