Located in the heart of Saint-Émilion, west of the village, the Chateau Cheval Brun vineyard has sandy clay soils with ironstone subsoil, which allows excellent drainage. Chateau Cheval Brun enjoys a blend of 75% Merlot, which gives this wine the smoothness, and the 15% Cabernet Sauvignon for body and richness and 10% Cabernet Franc for finesse and backbone. Cabernet Sauvignon is normally not planted in Saint-Emilion since it doesn’t ripen every year. This vineyard, located in the town itself, has a warmer microclimate than those vineyards outside the village.
Here they practice the modern techniques of green harvesting and leaf pulling, which ensure a ripe crop with low yield and excellent concentration. Hand harvesting and sorting before vinification of 21 days or so in thermo-regulated vats. Maturation occurs in oak in cellars cut into the rocks below ground. After 18 months, the wine is bottled, for your enjoyment or for cellaring. An exceptional Grand Cru at this price, with many years of aging ahead of it.
