La Crema was founded in 1979 and quickly established itself as a pioneer for intensely flavored Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from cool climate.
La Crema Sonoma Coast Chardonnay comes from the Sonoma Coast AVA. The appellation reaches north to the Mendocino County border, hugging the hills along the Sonoma County coastline down to the Russian River, where it follows the cool valleys to Los Carneros and the San Pablo Bay.
Like the Burgundy wine region of France, the vineyards of Sonoma Coast offer an unusually long, cool and steady growing season. Lingering fog and wind from the nearby Pacific Ocean and moderate temperatures throughout the growing season contribute to the slow ripening process. With an extended "hang" time on the vines, the results are small berries with firm acidity and highly concentrated aromas and flavors.
Winemaker's Notes:
Perhaps our most popular release overall, this vintage of Sonoma Coast Chardonnay opens with an intriguing interplay of lively citrus and subtle toasted oak, laced with just a kiss of butterscotch. The palate is round and nutty, with flavors of yellow apple and orange adding lushness, while well-balanced acidity creates a lovely vibrancy. Reviews Robert Parker 89 Points
The excellent 2009 Chardonnay Sonoma Coast is a crisp, elegant, fresh effort revealing notes of nectarines, honeyed citrus and zesty lemon rind in its medium-bodied, fresh, fragrant, pure personality. Representing elegance at its finest, it should drink well for several years. |
