Outstanding Producer - Outstanding Vintage - Great Price

One of the best producers of Pinot Noir in California is Brewer Clifton Vineyards, located in the Sta Rita Hills of Santa Barbara.  Robert Parker on Brewer-Clifton...
"Two brilliant young winemakers, Greg Brewer and Steve Clifton, are symbolic of both the present and future of California high quality wine production."

They produce a number of single vineyard Pinot Noirs that always score in the 90’s but the bottling that catches our eye each vintage is the Santa Rita Hills, and we were especially anticipating the 2009 vintage, which is an extraordinary one in California.

The 2009 Brewer Clifton Pinot Noir Santa Rita Hills is a blend mainly of vineyard sites like Mt Carmel, Rio Vista, and Zotovich.

Recently the Wine Advocate gave the 2009 Brewer Clifton Pinot Noir a 92 point score, which is well deserved in our mind. This is a great Pinot Noir from one of the best California regions and producers! In the past, it usually sold in the $35-40 range, and still does in some places out there, but our price is just $29.99 per bottle, with just $1 per bottle shipping on any order of 6 or more bottles!

Winemaker's Notes:

Our 2009 appellation pinot noir is sourced largely from our own managed vineyards, principally Mount Carmel and 3-D complemented by fruit sourced from Rio Vista and Zotovich. All of the vineyards were interpreted in the same fashion of our vineyard designate wines relying predominantly on whole cluster fermentation and only neutral oak elevage.

Incredibly fresh aromatics of strawberry, rose petal and wild brambly fruit followed by flavors of strawberry, pistachio and pork. While very rich in the mouth, the finish is drying and focused marked by our telltale firm and spicy texture.

Reviews

Antonio Galloni Wine Advocate 92 Points

The 2009 Pinot Noir is a highly expressive wine. Sweet red fruit, herbs, licorice, dried flowers and mint are some of the notes that emerge from this mid-weight Pinot. The 100% stems come through in the wine’s aromatic profile and high-toned finish. This is a terrific introduction to the house style and a fabulous effort at this level. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020

International Wine Cellar 91 Points

Vivid red.  Pure, energetic aromas of strawberry and raspberry, with sexy floral and spice notes adding complexity.  Juicy and precise, with good depth and a seamless texture to its spicy red fruit flavors.  Closes on a nervy note, with lingering spiciness and excellent persistence.  This drinks very well right now.  There's a lot of this to go around--almost 40,000 bottles, in fact.
