James Laube of the Wine Spectator has been talking up the 2007 vintage for California Syrah.

September 2009, he wrote up a number of California Syrahs in a feature titled "A dozen Syrahs from California show the 2007 vintage should be as excellent as anticipated." Just a few of the wineries mentioned in this feature were Foxen, Novy, and Dumol: all notable wineries. Only a single-vineyard Syrah from Foxen was rated higher than 91 points.

In the February 28, 2010 issue, he reviewed the 2007 Klinker Brick Syrah Farrah Lodi and scored it 91 points. The 91 point score was the highest rating given to a 2007 California Syrah under $20.

A big, smoky, juicy Syrah for the money.

Wine Spectator 91 Points

Smooth, rich and complex, showing tiers of ripe plum, blackberry and wild berry, with notable cedary dill- and vanilla-laced oak. But this is very nicely proportioned, ending with a long, lingering finish. Drink now through 2015. 3,500 cases made.–JL
