Shortly after we purchased the 2007 Turnbull Auction Lot at Premiere Napa Valley 2009, winemaker Peter Heitz let it slip that he had more than one special barrel of '07 fruit stashed away. Having loved the '07 blend they created for Premiere, we asked him if he could create another blend for our Grand Finale program, and what we got was wine that's just singing already.
A blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot, 5% Malbec and 5% Merlot, it's a classic case of letting Cab create the backbone and bringing in a few friends to round it all out. Flashy and ready-to-drink as many '07 Napa Cabs are, this one is also equipped for a few years in the cellar. Ripe, dark cherry fruit gives way to cassis, sweet chocolatey tannins and roasted coffee on a smooth, lengthy finish.
