Deep ruby color. Aromas of wild strawberries, cranberries, savory dried herbs and forest floor lift elegantly from the glass. On the palate, flavors of Bing cherry, raspberry, and pomegranate are framed by fine-grained tannins, coastal minerality and bright acidity that culminate on the lengthy finish.

Sweet red berries, mint, flowers, hard candy and spices all inform the 2012 Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast), the only 2012 Pinot that was in bottle at the time of this tasting. The 2012 is quite a bit racier and silkier than the 2011, a wine I have enjoyed on multiple occasions. There is a lot to like in the 2012, though, including the wine's immediate and open personality. I will not be surprised if the 2012 comes together a little more fully with time in bottle.

This beautiful Pinot Noir is a blend of various vineyards throughout the appellation. It shows classic coastal acidity, dryness and silkiness, with appealing raspberry, red licorice, cola and pomegranate flavors, wrapped into finely ground tannins. Decant and drink now.-SH
