Family-owned and operated, Babcock Winery and Vineyards is an expanding 20,000-case winery with 80 acres currently planted to Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir, and Syrah. Experimental varieties such as Albarino and Tempranillo from Spain, and Pignolo from Italy, are being evaluated. Chardonnay has always been the leading wine from this property, and Bryan Babcock has become a master at crafting beautiful Chardonnay from Santa Barbara.
Winemaker's Note:
Composed of 80% Babcock Estate fruit and 20% from Loma Verde in Los Alamos, in this blend you get the brisk acidity and minerality from the Babcock estate fruit and the varietal character and flesh from the Loma Verde fruit. With a nose of pineapple and lemon meringue, it's hard to resist. There's a pinch of clove and maybe a little tapioca thing going on in there as well. The mouth is beautifully rich without being over the top.
