Landmark’s mission is “to make great wines that enhance the joy of life.” Quality and flavor begin in the vineyards. In addition to the estate vineyard, Landmark sources grapes from a range of different vineyards and those selected are among the finest in the highly diverse microclimates of California’s winegrowing regions.

The 2009 growing season was an ideal growing season for Chardonnay. A long cool dry Spring was followed by a temperate summer. A warm, but not hot September brought the grapes to maturity with moderate sugar levels.

Eighteen of the finest Chardonnay Vineyards in Sonoma County including Charlie Heintz’s vineyard in the Sonoma Coast and The Sangiacomo Family’s Green Acres Hill Vineyard in Carneros comprise the 2009 Overlook Chardonnay. Harvest began the second week of September with Bald Mountain vineyard perched at 1,800 ft. in the Mayacamas Range. The majority of our chardonnay was harvested in the last week of September and the first week of October.

Winemaker's Notes:

The wine exhibits a golden honey hue with pure Granny Smith apple aromas along with distinctive notes of lime blossom and nutmeg. The mouth feel is rich and round and unfolds to reveal shortbread and pineapple flavors that linger.

The cuvee most likely to be encountered by readers is the 2009 Chardonnay Overlook, a blend assembled by longtime winemaker Eric Stern for proprietors Mike and Mary Colhoun. Completely accessed from Sonoma fruit (as opposed to several previous examples that came from numerous California appellations), it exhibits a light green/gold color as well as notes of nectarines, white peaches and hints of honey as well as tropical fruits. Medium to full-bodied, pure and fresh with the wood pushed to the background, this dry, classy white should be enjoyed over the next 2-3 years.

Bright gold.  Enticing aromas of tropical fruits, candied orange, truffle and smoky oak.  Big, sappy and expansive, with hints of bitter citrus adding lift and bite to its pineapple and mango flavors.  Shows a touch of musky lees on the clinging finish.  In an opulent style but with very good energy and finishing cut.  This drinks very well now.
