The Chappellet family has been crafting world class wines from their winery on Pritchard Hill since 1967. Spurred by the notion that mountain fruit would make superior wine, Chappellet followed the advice of legendary winemaker André Tchelistcheff and settled on the rocky eastern slopes of the Napa Valley.
But Chardonnay needs a cooler climate, so the Chappellets sought out vineyards in the cooler south end of Napa to make Chardonnay. Chappellet’s Napa Valley Chardonnay is produced from fruit grown in the coolest regions of Napa Valley. Overlooking the San Pablo Bay, Kelly Ranch receives the benefits of the Bay’s marine influences, creating optimal growing conditions for Chardonnay. Excellent acidity and minerality bring a little bit of Burgundy to the Napa Valley!
This wine offers a delicious combination of baked apple, pear and lemon zest aromas, as well as hints of hazelnut, baking spice and brioche. Additional layers of melted butter, brown sugar and beautiful spicy oak contribute to the complex Burgundian character of the nose. On the palate, this wine is fleshy and round, with enticing mineral, citrus, quince and pear flavors. Spice notes of clove, cardamom and toasted wood add an intriguing counterpoint to the fruit. All the elements seamlessly integrate, creating a rich, elegant mouthfeel that is toned by natural acidity and persists long on the finish.
