The 2008 Petite Syrah Heretic is fashioned from 64-year-old vines planted in the Red Cedar Vineyard. It exhibits a dark ruby/purple hue as well as plenty of black fruit, incense, and graphite characteristics. Ripe and medium to full-bodied with surprisingly lush tannins for such a young Petite Sirah, it should evolve for a decade or more.

Vivid wild blackberry, huckleberry and blueberry notes are terrific—ripe, juicy and very concentrated. Though full-bodied, the tannins stay in the background to let the core of fruit flavors shine through. Peppery details come in on the finish. Drink now through 2020. 900 cases made.–MW

Deep ruby. An intensely perfumed bouquet displays ripe dark berries, incense and violet, with a smoky overtone. Lush and creamy in texture, with powerful blackberry and mulberry flavors that are firmed by a spine of juicy acidity. Becomes more floral with air and finishes on notes of candied licorice, violet and lavender. Pretty wild stuff.-JR |
