Wine Spectator’s Highest Rated 2006 Red Bordeaux
We recently attended a Bordeaux tasting which featured some big names such as Mouton Rothschild, Haut Brion, Margaux, Cheval Blanc, and the like from various vintages such as 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006. The wines from 2006 really impressed us with their intensity of fruit and power with ripe tannins. They are obviously still very young and should be cellared a bit longer, but they are well on their way to becoming great wines down the road.
The great thing about 2006 is that most of the wines from the vintage are currently selling at a fraction of the price for other maturing, high quality vintages like 2000, 2003, and 2005. They are selling at even smaller fraction to vintages like 2009 and 2010, which have not even been released yet.
Today we offer you the 2006 Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou, one of the highest rated wines from the vintage. In fact, the Wine Spectator gave it their highest of any Red Bordeaux from 2006 at 95 points, as well as including it in their Top 100 Wines of 2009. Robert Parker rated it 94 points and among the ten highest rated Bordeaux of the vintage.
We just received a new shipment of the 2006 Ducru Beaucaillou in their original wood cases and in perfect condition. The wines have been properly stored at a temperature controlled New Jersey warehouse. Reviews Robert Parker 94 Points
This classic, backward, tannic St.-Julien is made in the style of the 1996 and 1986. The 2006 Ducru Beaucaillou possesses a dense purple color along with a sweet perfume of graphite, black raspberries, cassis, licorice, and subtle toasty oak. Despite their prominent place in the wine’s structure, the sweetness of the tannins and the full-bodied, muscular style suggest exceptional patience will be required. This is a big, substantial, meaty, masculine wine built for considerable longevity. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2035.
Wine Spectator 95 Points
Very perfumed and beautiful, showing blackberry and raspberry aromas, with hints of vanilla. Deep and complex. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a long, powerful finish. Excellent for the vintage. Best after 2015.–JS

Bright red-ruby. Deep, vibrant aromas of currant, sour cherry, graphite, cedar and licorice. Sappy, suave and energetic, with terrific verve and framing acidity to the tightly wound flavors of dark cherry, currant, spices and minerals. Wonderfully primary and penetrating Saint-Julien, almost painfully intense yet weightless. Finishes very long and fine, with terrific definition. An infant today, with a long life ahead of it. |
