Wine Advocate

Robert Parker recently released his latest Wine Advocate including his report on the 2008 vintage in Bordeaux. He sees many wines from 2008 rivaling their 2005s.

"... the quality of the 2008 vintage turned out to be excellent, with a number of superb wines that are close to, if not equal to the prodigious 2005 or 2000 vintages (two years with many of the best wines I have ever tasted from top to bottom)"

Reviews

Robert Parker 92 points

A sleeper of the vintage, the dense ruby/purple-tinged 2008 Branon displays chocolatey, earthy undertones intermixed with black currants and Asian plum sauce. Medium to full-bodied, rich, impressively endowed, supple and evolved, it can be drunk over the next 10-12 years.

Wine Spectator 89 Points

Juicy and expressive, this polished red delivers bright black cherry, blackberry, espresso and mineral flavors, with leaf and tobacco notes. Very fresh and focused, with firm tannins. Drink now through 2014. 500 cases made. -TM

Stephen Tanzer International Wine Cellar 91 Points

Serious, full red-red-ruby. Very ripe aromas of black raspberry, tobacco, mocha and chocolate. Dense, sweet, chewy and concentrated; broad but not heavy. Sweet berry flavors are complicated by soil tones. Finishes with serious but ripe and even tannins and excellent length. The wine's firm underlying acidity made itself felt after 24 hours in the recorked bottle.

Neal Martin Wine Journal 90-92 Points

A lovely nose with dark, chocolate tinged fruit, good definition, a touch of smoke. Great lift from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied, a touch of spice on the entry, nice prickle in the mouth, good weight of fruit with a well balanced, off-dry finish. Quite deep and broody but tons of personality that will need a few years to evolve. Excellent. Tasted April 2009.
