Wine Advocate

Robert Parker recently released his latest Wine Advocate including his report on the 2008 vintage in Bordeaux. He sees many wines from 2008 rivaling their 2005s.

"... the quality of the 2008 vintage turned out to be excellent, with a number of superb wines that are close to, if not equal to the prodigious 2005 or 2000 vintages (two years with many of the best wines I have ever tasted from top to bottom)"

Closed but promising, this is a classic Cos revealing lots of tannin along with damp earth, black currant, sweet black cherry, graphite, licorice and truffle characteristics. This medium to full-bodied, structured, firm, broodingly backward, impenetrable effort demands 5-6 years of bottle age; it should drink well for 20-25 years.

Wine Spectator 90 Points

Quite juicy, with a mouthwatering edge to the damson plum, mulled cherry and red currant fruit. Modest acidity, fine-grained tannins and flashy spice and iron notes drive the finish. There's excellent integration and harmony for the vintage. Drink now through 2019.

Good deep ruby-red. Complex aromas and flavors of currant, raspberry, smoke, musky dried herbs, sexy oak tones and minerals. Rich, broad and lush; big, rich and sweet but with an edge of acidity giving lift and grip to the middle palate. At once sexy and serious wine, finishing with broad, horizontal tannins and excellent length.

This is a great wine from Jean-Guillaume Prats and tasted alongside the gestating 2009 at the chateau, guess which one I preferred? The 2008 has a wonderful, life-affirming bouquet: very pure and refined, great precision with blackberry, bilberry, briary, a touch of wild hedgerow and graphite. The palate is medium-bodied, very well balanced with slightly brittle tannin on the entry, the Cabernet Sauvignon (85%) firmly in the driving seat. Great clarity and focus towards the almost Pauillac like finish soaked in mineralite, this wine is brilliantly realized. Drink 2015-2030. Tasted October 2010.
