Wine Advocate
Robert Parker recently released his latest Wine Advocate including his report on the 2008 vintage in Bordeaux. He sees many wines from 2008 rivaling their 2005s.
"... the quality of the 2008 vintage turned out to be excellent, with a number of superb wines that are close to, if not equal to the prodigious 2005 or 2000 vintages (two years with many of the best wines I have ever tasted from top to bottom)" Reviews

The beautiful dark plum/purple-hued 2008 exhibits a sweet perfume of kirsch, roasted herbs, new saddle leather and spice box. Well-textured and medium to full-bodied with supple tannins and abundant nuances, it can be drunk now and over the next 10-15 years.

A broad, smoky style, exhibiting tobacco and sweet earth notes that lead the way for mulled fig and blackberry fruit flavors. The silky finish lets cedar and sanguine hints check in. This really shows its length as it airs in the glass, with nicely buried minerality. Drink now through 2015. 2,580 cases made. -JM

Deep ruby-red. Exotic aromas and flavors of raspberry, sandalwood, incense, smoky oak and white pepper. Smooth, sweet and nicely delineated, with insidious acidity giving shape and lift to the middle palate. Wonderfully perfumed in the mouth, showing sexy oak tones and a note of clove oil. Finishes with firm but suave tannins, sound structure and a lingering note of black cardamom. Very seductive wine.

En primeur barrel sample. This has a very lush, sensuous nose of cassis, plum and boysenberry although it could do with more definition. A touch of hot bricks. The palate is medium-bodied, firm, quite masculine tannins, hints of coca towards the structured finish. A like the aloofness of this Saint Emilion
– as if it is holding back for the consumer after bottling rather than the critic before...as it should be. Tasted April 2009. |
