“Worthy Of A Grand Cru Classe”-Neal Martin
The 2009 vintage in Bordeaux produced many exceptional wines, but some of the best wines from the vintage, according to our Bordeaux buying team who tasted them from barrel, were the Cabernet Sauvignon based wines from the Medoc region. Robert Parker agreed, awarding the 2009 vintage with 99 points for the wines from the northern Medoc regions.
The newest arrival to the stores from the outstanding 2009 vintage is the Chateau Devise d'Ardilley. The Chateau lies very close to the border of St Julien and Pauillac, and its location shows when you taste the wine. It has the wonderful 2009 fruit, but also the great structure that you would expect from a Cru Classé Saint Julien or Pauillac. The Wine Advocate's Neal Martin rated it 92 points saying it’s “worthy of a Grand Cru Classe.”
In fact, the 2009 Chateau Devise d'Ardilley was selected as the winner of the Coupe des Cru Bourgeois at Vinexpo last year, besting every other Cru Bourgeois in a blind tasting of 164 different 2009 Bordeaux Cru Bourgeois to be named as the Best Cru Bourgeois of 2009!
The 2009 Chateau Devise d'Ardilley is a great QPR, Cabernet Savignon based 2009 Bordeaux for just 18.99 per bottle. Reviews Neal Martin's Wine Journal 92 Points
Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois 2009 tasting in London. The Devise d’Ardilley was the winner of the Coup de Cru Bourgeois that I judged at Vinexpo in June. Here, it justifies that “coup”. It has a lovely, beautifully defined bouquet with pure dark berried fruits intertwined with marmalade and orange rind. Sheer class. The palate is beautifully balanced with superb acidity. Very vibrant, very composed with a sensual, caressing finish worthy of a Grand Cru Classe. Outstanding for its class. Tasted September 2011. |
