Guigal = Rhone Wine at its Finest
The name Guigal is synonomous with the finest in wine from the Rhone Valley. The Guigal family has been making top quality wines from both their estate and from purchased fruit for over 60 years. Their greatest fame comes from their spectacular Cote Roties, but their other properties scattered across the Rhone Valley also produce spectacular wines.
Robert Parker comments "Guigal, who also owns fabulous vineyards in the Northern Rhone, is a superb blender when it comes to his Southern Rhones. He is turning out enormous quantities of high quality Cotes du Rhone reds, whites, and roses as well as fine Chateauneuf du Papes, Gigondas, and a terrific rose from Tavel."
Robert Parker 91-93
The 2005 Gigondas may be the finest Gigondas made at this estate in many years. Composed of 50% Grenache and the rest Syrah and Mourvedre, all aged in foudre. His 2005 Gigondas is better than 80% of those produced by the vignerons with estates in the village. Its deep ruby color is followed by aromas and flavors of minerals and peppery black currants, a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, and noticeable, but sweet tannin.
