Winemaker's Notes:
In 2001, Lidia Bastianich, Joe Bastianich and Mario Batali joined forces to create La Mozza, a 100 acre property located in the Maremma region of Tuscany (Magliano in Toscana, Grosseto) near Scansano southwest of Montalcino, 10 miles from the Tyrrhenian sea. Unlike other regions of Tuscany which are bound to regulations which define and restrict grapes and wine styles, Maremma allows more freedom of expression in order to achieve our goal of producing unique wines by incorporating mediterranean varietals such as Alicante, Petit Verdot, and Syrah. Through the research of our winemaker Maurizio Castelli, who also produces the Bastianich wines in Friuli, we are convinced that La Mozza is the ideal location.
I Perazzi was created to be unlike most other Morellino's which see little or no time in oak. The blend of I Perazzi is more expressive and better demonstrates the potential of the terroir. I Perazzi is named after the fruit trees that grow on the estate and bear a pear like fruit, which is depicted on the label.
Grape Varietals: 85% Morellino (the local name for Sangiovese in Maremma) 4% Syrah, 4% Alicante, 3% Colorino, 4% Ciliegiolo
Reviews Antonio Galloni Wine Advocate 88 Points
The 2009 Morellino di Scansano I Perazzi is a tasty, vibrant red bursting with sweet dark cherries, flowers, spices and minerals. This is a decidedly fresh style for the Perazzi with excellent length and fine overall balance. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2013. |
