· WS 95pt Super Tuscan from 2006 vintage!
· One of the top 2006 Super Tuscans rated
The Wine Spectator's recent issue features the top wines from Tuscany, specifically from the 2006 vintage. The Wine Spectator raised their overall rating for the vintage from 93 to 96 points which puts it just behind 1997 vintage which received 97 points.
Many of the top wines rated were Super Tuscans. There were sixty-two Super Tuscans rated with scores in the nineties. The Fattoria di Felsina Fontalloro was one of the highest rated. In 2006, only the Ornellaia Masseto, Antinori Solaia, Le Macchiole Messorio, and Fontodi's Flaccianello were rated higher. Each of those sell for at least twice the price of Fontalloro. Reviews Antonio Galloni Wine Advocate 94 Points
The 2006 Fontalloro is much more sweet and open than the firmer Rancia. Enticing, expressive aromatics lead to an expansive core of fruit. Round, finessed tannins give the wine an additionallevel of polish. Today the Fontalloro is fleshier and more ready than the Rancia. There is superbpurity to the fruit and wonderful overall balance. Tar, smoke, licorice, and grilled herbs come tolife on the finish. Fontalloro is made from vineyards in both the Chianti Classico and Chianti Colli Senesi appellations. Simply put, this is a great, majestic Fontalloro. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2018.
Wine Spectator 95 Points
Chocolate, blackberry and black cherry aromas. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a deep concentration of fruit. Powerfully rich and polished. Big and structured. A blockbuster Sangiovese. Best after 2012. 3,300 cases made. |
