WS Highest Rated Tuscan Red Under 30 In 2009
Poggio Il Castellare is certainly making a name for itself in Tuscany lately. In 2009, their 2004 Brunello di Montalcino ranked as the # 11 wine in the Wine Spectator’s Top 100. Their 2005 Brunello received a 93 point score, matching the 2004 point for point. They also produce an outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon from Sant’Antimo in Montalcino that could easily pass as a $40 to $50 Napa Cabernet!
The 2007 Sant'Antimo Cabernet Sauvignon received 93 points from the Wine Spectator, which was the highest rating they gave to a Tuscan red wine under $30 in 2009.

Wonderful aromas of crushed berries, with fresh herbs and mineral, follow through to a full body, with soft, velvety tannins and a long, caressing finish. Very fine. Best after 2011. –JS
