A New Estate, with a History of Quality
Paolo Veglio grew up on his family's farm, watching the tenant farmers tend the grapes, and longed to join them in tending the land. He began taking control of the estate, selling the grapes to Bruno Giacosa. When he started to make his own wine in 2005, the former winemaker at Giacosa, Dante Scaglione approached him about helping him make the wine, because he knew the quality of the fruit. The result is a new estate with a great track record.
2005 was the first vintage for Cascina Roccalini, and what a debut with this gorgeous Barbaresco. Cherry and plum fruit, with a dash of mocha, and beautifully balanced tannins make for delicious drinking right now, but this beauty should keep for another decade.
