Winemaker's Notes:
The wine appears a dense, almost opaque purple-red, but of striking luminosity. Intense, rich draughts of red berry fruit lead off on the nose, with raspberry and wild strawberry well in evidence, followed closely by rich blackberry and dark cherry. This impressive, multi-layered bouquet closes with spicier impressions of cocoa powder, tobacco leaf, vanilla, and cinnamon. The palate is equally impressive for its warmth, velvet smoothness, and complex balance, where dense but supple tannins are already well integrated into the structure. A tasty, nervy acidity fuels a lengthy progression, and it concludes with lovely fruit in a final crescendo. Reviews Antonio Galloni Wine Advocate 88 Points
Frescobaldi’s 2008 Tenuta di Castiglioni is a big, juicy wine endowed with tons of fruit. This blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Sangiovese shows excellent balance, even if the tannins dry out just a touch on the finish. Ideally the wine needs a few more months in bottle for the oak to integrate. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2014.

Medium red. Floral red berry aromas complicated by chestnut and graphite. Sweet and smooth on entry, with juicy red berry and dark plum flavors and a fresh, moderately long aftertaste. Delicious, easygoing wine. |
