We’ve been eagerly awaiting the release of the 2006 Clerico Barolo Ginestra ever since we saw the comments made by Antonio Galloni back in the February issue of the Wine Advocate.  Here’s what he said that intrigued us.“The 2005s signal a move towards a more elegant style, but it is the 2006s that show the first true results of the new approach, and the wines are simply breathtaking.”

He also awarded the 2006 Ginestra 97 points which is the highest rating ever given Domenico Clerico’s flagship Barolo by the Wine Advocate, tying it with 1989 and 2004.  The difference, though, is this new style of Clerico.  We couldn’t wait to try the wine when it arrived.

We tasted it just this morning and this is just amazing juice!  Impeccably balanced, great purity, tightly wound, structured, plenty of concentration, and tannins are very refined.  Don’t miss this one!

Antonio Galloni Wine Advocate 97 Points

The 2006 Barolo Ciabot Mentin Ginestra bursts onto the palate with gorgeous, well-delineated aromas and flavors. This is an especially chiseled, finely sculpted, yet exotic Barolo endowed with extraordinary complexity and mouth-filling intensity in its ripe dark plums, mint, violets, sweet spices, soy, tar and minerals. In 2006, the Ciabot combines elegance and power to a degree that is exceedingly rare. It is another superb and truly special Barolo from Domenico Clerico. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2031

International Wine Cellar 95 Points

Good full red. Very sexy aromas of musky raspberry, flowers, tobacco and truffle, with a strong minerality and a minty nuance not currently apparent in the Pajana. Then red-fruity and powerful but youthfully unforthcoming, with a strong spine of acids and tannins currently subduing the wine's underlying sweetness. Finishes with serious but late-arriving tannins and terrific length.
