The 2009 Chianti Classico is a pretty wine with expressive red fruit. The sweetness and spiciness of the oak dominates the wine’s balance. The pedigree of these unique, hillside vineyards is strangely absent. Volpaia gave the Chianti Classico, 100% Sangiovese, 18 months in new French oak barrels. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017.-AG

Very oaky, this red has a resinous quality overlaying its cherry and strawberry flavors. Tightly wound, this is rigid and tannic through the finish. Requires patience. To be released spring 2012. Best from 2013 through 2020. 15,000 cases made.–BS
