Fonseca will only declare a classic Vintage Port in exceptional years. Normally, you will not see a vintage declared within two years of another declared vintage but that’s exactly what you have with the 2009. The last time Fonseca declared a vintage two years after the previous one was the 1994 vintage. If that’s an indication of how good the 2009 will be down the road, then this is a vintage to buy and put away in the cellar.

This is gorgeously vibrant and grapey, with good cut to the luscious dark fruit and cedar flavors that are flanked by zesty acidity and tannins. A touch brooding midpalate, with a minerally rush and a finish of slate and iron. Best from 2016 through 2036. 7,000 cases made.-KM

Wine Enthusiast 95 Points

A classic Fonseca, rich and powerful, with just an extra edge of weight from the vintage. It has a dry character, a tannic edge that gives great promise, but the open-hearted fruit is all there. A wonderfully intense wine for aging.

C = Cheese: Only ships to 9 North-Eastern states. We currently ship cheese and other perishables to CT, DE, MA, MD, NJ, NY, PA, RI, and VT.

L = Local: You can order the item online and you can also pick it up at one of our local stores.

S = Ships Everywhere: Non-alcoholic and non-perishable items such as Salsas, Olive Oils, Wine Accessories and Gift Cards can be shipped to any state in the US.

F = Free Shipping: Items marked F3, F6 or F12 means you need to purchase at least that amount in order to qualify for Free Shipping. (ie. F6 means you need to buy at least 6 bottles in order for a Free Shipping discount to appear.)

$1EA-6 = Ship Cost EACH: Some items have their own shipping cost. Some have a minimum to buy in order to qualify. $1EA-6 means the items ships for $1.00 each as long as you purchase 6 of them. $1EA-1 means you only need to buy the one, $1EA-12 means you need to purchase 12, and so forth.
