The excellent 2009 Pinotage has a well-defined, attractive nose of blackberry, dark plum and some reductive tertiary aromas that dissipate with aeration. The palate has a sweet core of red berry fruit on the entry with the ebullience of an Italian Barbera. It has very good definition and a lovely fresh citrus finish. Excellent.Southern Right was introduced by Anthony Hamilton of Hamilton Russell in Hemel-en-Aarde in 1994 with the goal of creating top quality cool-climate Pinotage. When the neighbouring 448-hectare estate on the western flank of Hamilton Russell came up for sale in 2005, Hamilton bought the property with business partners and gave Southern Right a permanent home.-NM
