The best is the 2013 Tarima Hill, which is 100% Monastrell from vines planted between 1935-1970 in pure chalk. This is aged 20 months in 100% French oak. Bottled unfiltered, this has beautiful aromatics of blueberries, black raspberries, chalk dust and floral notes. The wine hits the palate with a fresh, medium to full-bodied, pure style. This is a serious and terrific value from Alicante and should drink nicely for 3-4 years.

(made from vines that were planted between 1935 and 1970): Bright purple. An exotically perfumed bouquet displays scents of fresh black and blue fruits, licorice, vanilla and peppery spices. Juicy and incisive on the palate, offering sweet boysenberry and cassis flavors that flesh out on the back half. Sappy and concentrated, yet quite lively, finishing with smooth, shaping tannins and a strong punch. This sexy wine went through malolactic fermentation and was aged in French oak barrels for 20 months.-JR
