2010 February Wine Club Cellar Selection
In the late 1980's, several quality-minded Priorat producers got together to vinify their wines collectively in one cellar in the town of Gratallops. Each of these wineries used the word "Clos" as part of their name (Clos Dofi, Clos de l’Obac, and Clos Martinet.) Today they've all established their brands enough to warrant their own facilities, but the shared piece of a name is kept in remembrance of the time in which they all pulled together to establish Priorat among world-class wine appellations.
Today Clos Martinet is run by the father and daughter team of Jose Luis Perez and Sara Perez. Together they produce about 3,000 cases of wine per year from their 10 hectares of Grenache, Cabernet, Merlot, Syrah and Carignan. Half goes into their flagship Clos Martinet bottling, and the other half to their Martinet Bru. An amazing value, the wine carries a savory note and evolves with air into a gorgeously complex, structured wine.
