The Newest Highly Rated Value To Arrive
We all know there are tremendous values coming out of Spain these days. We continually look for those values that way over-deliver. We’ve discovered a new Rioja Reserva that fits that category. A Rioja in a burgundy shaped bottle that will not disappoint!
The 2005 Cerro Anon Rioja Reserva is full-bodied and dense with great complexity and structure. This is drinkable right now, but could also be aged for 3-4 years.
The heart of Rioja is the La Rioja Alta district, and the grapes for the Cerro Anon are sourced there. It’s a blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo, and Graciano. Jay Miller of the Wine Advocate rated it 91 points and called it a “remarkable value in traditional Rioja.” Josh Raynolds of the International Wine Cellar rated it 90 points. We’re in agreement with the critics on this one.
A great deal for Rioja Reserva at just $14.99 per bottle with $1 per bottle shipping on six and Free Shipping on a Case!
Winemaker's Notes:
Cherry red with ruby highlights. Complex, fine aromas. Round and well balanced on the palate, as a result of its long period in the bottle. Reviews Jay Miller Wine Advocate 91 Points
The 2005 Cerro Anon Reserva is a similar blend to the Crianza but aged in barrel for 20 months. Sandalwood, Asian spices, incense, mineral, and espresso notes inform the nose of this savory, mouth-filling, dense, succulent offering. Give it 2-3 years of additional cellaring to fully blossom and drink it through 2020, if not longer. It is a remarkable value in traditional Rioja.
International Wine Cellar 90 Points
Vivid ruby. Dried cherry, redcurrant and vanilla on the nose, with spice and mineral notes adding complexity. Deeply pitched redcurrant and bitter cherry flavors are lifted by zesty acidity and pick up spiciness with air. Shows very good depth and power but this is also taut and lithe. Sweet red fruits linger on the long, spicy, mineral-accented finish. |
